Description
Typescript of a brief note by Allen F. Stein, claiming that Cornelius Mathews' The Career of Puffer Hopkins (1842) may have inspired Poe's "The Raven." In his introduction to "The Raven" Mabbott notes that Poe reputedly told Cornelius Mathews that a raven "pursues me, mentally, perpetually." However, Stein's claim does not appear in Mabbott's account of influence on the poem.
