Description
Photocopy of pages 206-209 and 242-243 from Mabbott's copy of Horace Binney Wallace, Stanley; or, the Recollections of a Man of the World (Philadelphia: Lea & Blanchard, 1838), 206-209; 242-243. In Stanley, Wallace relays Tommasa Campanella's method of deducing another person's internal thoughts by reading external facial expressions. Dupin employs and recounts this method in "The Purloined Letter." See note 12 in Mabbott's version of the tale.
Mabbott's marginalia is visible in the photocopy. Maureen Mabbott has annotated the photocopy in pen. It is not clear if she marked up the document in different colors, or if the different colors indicate other editorial assistants.
