Manuscript note referring to six variant lines of "The Raven" in a 3 February 1845 letter from E.A. Poe to J. Augustus Shea. The letter was published in The Letters of Edgar Allan Poe--Volume I: 1824-1845, ed. J.W. Ostrom et al (1948-2008). Shea worked for the New-York Tribune, where "The Raven" appeared on February 4. The "D" refers to Mabbott's alphabetical-chronological sequencing of printings of "The Raven." The six lines in Poe's letter to Shea comprise Mabbott's text D; the Tribune printing is text E.
