Description
Clipping from an antiquarian catalogue with an entry by Jacob E. Spannuth, reporting that "The Raven" appeared in the 22 February 1845 issue of the Columbia Spy. As the editorial preface indicates, this printing was copied from the first publication of the poem in the New York Evening Mirror of 29 January 1845. Poe wrote a series of letters on New York City for the Spy, which Spannuth collected for the book Doings of Gotham (1929). Mabbott contributed a preface, introduction, and commentary for the book. The Spy printing of "The Raven" is not accounted for in Mabbott's edition.
